Papier Mache

This term we've been learning about Asian cultures. In art we designed our own Asian mask. Today we did the first step in making our masks, using the technique papier mache. Sabine, Anna, Tristan, Cooper, Jack, Ella, Keira and I pasted our first layer. Now we have to wait for the mask to dry before we can start the second layer. I'm looking forward to painting my mask when I finish the third layer of papier mache.

A Busy Day at School

Today we had a whole school mass in the church. The mass was for the feast of the Annunciation, which was when the angel Gabriel told Mary that she would have a child whose name was Jesus. 6 Blue felt very special today as we had the opportunity to sit up the front of the church!

During Italian we wrote a fact file on ourselves, which included writing about our favourite colours, future jobs, hobbies and sports in Italian.

Today in Mathematics, we learnt about equivalent fractions and how to add and subtract fractions with the same and different denominators. We also revised our pre assessments on fractions and decimals and worked out any problems we had with them. We set our own learning goals on where we need help.

Mathematics - Fractions

Today in mathematics myself and Year 6 learnt about fractions. We learnt about the numerator and the denominator. To help us remember improper and proper fractions, we learnt that a proper fraction is the jockey on the horse and an improper fraction is the horse on the jockey. We also learnt about mixed numbers. I learnt that a mixed number is a whole number and a fraction. We also placed fractions and mixed numbers on number lines.

Cross Country Carnival

On Friday the 20th of March, we went to Bulli for our school cross country carnival. My sister and I arrived early to the carnival to help set up, I was very tired but excited for my race. My race was the first race and I did some stretches before I ran. Mr Devlin called us over for the race. When the whistle was blown I started to run. I came 7th overall! My favourite part of the carnival was watching the kindergarten children run and taking a "That's Gold" photo. Year 6 had a great day at the cross country carnival and I'm sure everyone was tired on the weekend!

Mackillop Swimming Trials

On Friday the 20th of March Jack, Jeremy, Ciaran and I attended the MacKillop swimming trials. Jack came 7th backstroke and 7th in the senior boys relay. Jeremy came 11th the 50m freestyle and 7th in the relay. Ciaran came 7th in the boys relay. I came 6th in the 100m freestyle, 5th in the 50m freestyle and 6th in the 50m backstroke. Overall as a school we tried our best and made great memorable achievements and memories.
