Forms of Spelling
This term Year 6 have been learning about the
four forms of spelling. The four forms of spelling are phonological, visual,
morphemic and etymological knowledge. Phonological knowledge is how words and
letter combinations sound; Visual knowledge is the way the words and letter
combinations look; Etymological is the study of the word origins; and Morphemic
is the meaning of the words and the way these words change form. Each day we
focus on a form of spelling which helps us learn our spelling rules.

A Letter from Gallipoli
In respect to ANZAC day, we read many letters
from soldiers back to their families. In class, we wrote a letter from
Gallipoli pretending we were soldiers in the war. We decorated the sheet of
paper to make it look like a letter that was written many years ago.

New Life
Today was a brilliant day at school. We started
the day off reading our serial reader refuge. In religion, we discussed what the
term ‘new life’ meant to us and how new life will be like if we have faith in
God and follow his commandments. Year 6 blue had to create their own symbol for
‘new life’, and below are some of the amazing images we drew.

Letter from Gallipoli
Today I had great day at school. I wrote a
letter about a soldier, who was in Gallipoli. The soldier wrote an emotional
letter back to his wife in Australia and described his experiences and his day
to day life living in Gallipoli. In Creative Arts, I drew a giraffe. The best
part about today was that it was my birthday. All the children in Year 6 sang
happy birthday to me and I enjoyed spending the day with them.
